Rape honey is one of the honeys that bees bring in spring. Due to its high glucose content, it crystallises very quickly and then becomes pale yellow, creamy or quite white.

Rape honey is one of those honeys which has the highest content of glucose and amino acids. This means that it is an excellent conditioner, especially for an organism exhausted by long-term illness, fatigue or stress. It has regenerative properties, strengthens the immune system, making us less susceptible to all kinds of infections. There is also a lot of potassium and magnesium in rape honey, so it is worth using it in the prevention of heart and circulatory system diseases. Regular consumption of this variety of honey strengthens the heart, lowers blood pressure and can also slow down progressive atherosclerotic changes. It is helpful in gastrointestinal disorders – especially in problems with bile ducts and fat metabolism disorders.
Rape honey can also be used externally in skin diseases and burns – it cleanses skin tissues from impurities, dust and necrotic lesions. To notice any effects of honey use, it should be consumed regularly.

    • The temperature is very important for storing honey and should be kept between 8 and 10°C.
    • We store honey away from the sun for a simple reason – raising the temperature of honey to 25-35°C results in an increase in enzyme activity, suspension of crystallization, and in case of excessive thinning – even fermentation.
    • Honeys stored for a long time in the sunlight, change colour to darker, may lose their value.
    • Honey is a hygroscopic product and we store it in a sealed jar.

The composition of rape honey, similarly to nectar from rapeseed flowers, includes essential oils, tannins, bitter compounds, flavonoids, bioelements, vitamins B, K and C, nicotinic acid, choline, as well as coumarin, saponins, trace amounts of alkaloids. It is characterized by low content of mineral compounds, but with significant assimilability by the body. These include iron, which is a component of haemoglobin and a carrier of oxygen in the body. The assimilability of this element from honey is about 63%. Rape honey also belongs to honeys rich in boron, i.e. an element necessary for building bone tissue and proper functioning of the spleen and thyroid. It is also responsible for the proper interaction of other elements in the body. Boron deficiency leads to a loss of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium and lowers estrogen levels, especially in postmenopausal women, which can cause bone mass loss.
